Abstract.
The article examines the influence of I. Kant’s teaching of the antinomies of pure reason on the thought and works of F.M. Dostoevsky. It is noted that the writer systematically resorted to an antinomic way of depicting the human being in his works, but his approach differed from that of Kant. Based on authoritative studies of his oeuvre, a philosophical genesis of Dostoevsky’s works has revealed that for him: 1) not only thought is antinomic, but a human being as a whole; 2) the relationship between “thesis” and “anti-thesis” is the antinomy of Good and Evil, and there is no equality between them, and reconciliation is impossible; 3) A person must choose the position of the “thesis”, but not on a religious rather than a rational basis. The criterion distinguishing Dostoevsky’s philosophy from Kant’s beliefs lies in the practical application of the principles of the “thesis” and the “antithesis” to specific human actions. Through the artistic modeling of human deeds, the writer demonstrated in his works the non-pragmatic nature of the “antithesis” and its destructive effects on a person’s life.
