Abstract. The article examines the activities of the Arctic Boat Museum, with particular attention to its marine expeditions aboard traditional sailing and rowing boats built on the Murmansk coast. During one of these trips, undertaken aboard a Pomor “karbas” and “shnyaka” as part of the project “Following the Route of St. Varlaam of Keret”, supported by the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives, the settlement of Rynda was surveyed in the summer of 2025. The condition of the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord (built in 1878) was documented. A subsequent campaign to popularize this project (including a travel diary, photo exhibitions, and film screenings) generated interest from the project “Common Cause: Revival of the Wooden Churches of the North”. In the summer of 2026, an expedition to Rynda was organized, the church was mothballed, which will prevent its further destruction. The restoration of the church is regarded as a means of preserving northern identity and strengthening the brand of the region.
