Abstract. The article aims to introduce new data on the draft coat of arms of the Primorsky Region of Eastern Siberia dated 1877 (including the original drawing) into scientific circulation, and to compare this information with previously known data on the subject. The author also analyzes the underlying basis for the emergence of this draft – namely, the marking of boundary pillars along the Moscow Highway. The study employs the method of historicism, alongside historical-comparative, problem-based analyses, and phenomenological analysis. Consolidating the body of documents makes it possible to trace its passage through administrative channels, thereby helping to construct a comprehensive picture of how this coat of arms was developed. Consequently, the author concludes that the draft coat of arms of the Primorsky region of 1877 no longer constitutes a research issue. Further study of this issue could only be supplemented by general materials from other Far Eastern regions within the broader context of marking border territories, or by memoirs and personal documents of the draft’s author.
Keywords: coat of arms, heraldry, domestic heraldic design, Heraldry Division of the Department of Heraldry, Police Executive Department, Primorsky Region, 1877 coat of arms’ project, boundary pillars, Moscow Highway
