Abstract. This article explores the immersive theatre – one of the most vibrant and influential theatrical forms of the last two decades. The study provides a comprehensive interdisciplinary analysis of immersive theatre classification, covering its aesthetic, philosophical, sociological, and economic aspects. It argues that immersive theater – which has emerged from the intersection of performance art, installation, and role-playing traditions – offers a unique experience in which the audience is immersed in the fictional world of the performance through interaction with the space and performers. The article emphasizes that, despite the growing global popularity of immersive shows, the theoretical conceptualization of this phenomenon remains fragmentary. This study aims to analyze existing approaches to understanding immersion and to propose a classification of immersive theatre, thereby outlining the prospects for further research in this field. The proposed typology encompasses the cultural and social specifics of immersive theatre, the philosophy and aesthetics of immersion, immersive theatre within the experience economy, empirical studies of the audience, immersive theatre in virtual reality, as well as somnambulist, immersive, generative, biometric, and invasive immersive types of theatrical experiences. The main findings and conclusions of the article lay the foundation for further interdisciplinary research into immersive theatre and immersion in general. They demonstrate the productivity of dialogue between philosophical aesthetics, social sciences, and digital methods in the analysis of emerging cultural phenomena.
